During the heating season, all users consume energy at the same time, creating peak demand and overloading the network. These peak periods can occur daily between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. and between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.
To better distribute energy demand, some electricity suppliers offer pricing plans. These encourage users to reduce their energy consumption during peak hours and allow them to make significant savings.
Hydro-Québec currently offers the opportunity to take advantage of the Flex D rate during the winter period (December 1 to March 31) .
Flex D Tariff
Flex D tariff participants can benefit from a reduced rate on their energy consumption during regular hours and a higher rate (46.154¢/kWh) during peak hours.
Winter credit
Rate D participants with winter credit option pay for electricity at the base rate and can receive a credit of 56.786¢ for each kilowatt-hour consumed less during peak hours (based on usual consumption).
To achieve significant savings, you must subscribe to a tariff plan and ensure that you only consume the electricity you need during peak periods.
