What happens to my smart water valve in the event of a power outage?

The VA4220ZB/VA4221ZB (2nd generation Zigbee) valve acts as a secondary valve by replicating main Wi-Fi valve actions during power outages if it has backup batteries. As a main valve connected to a Zigbee gateway, it won’t auto-shutoff during outages due to lost communication. To operate during outages, the Zigbee gateway must have backup power and an automation to close the valve on leak detection.

The behavior of the valve depends on the model and the presence of a backup power supply.

Valve VA4220ZB / VA4221ZB (2nd generation – Zigbee)

Use as a secondary valve

If the valve is connected to the main Wi-Fi valve (e.g., VA4220WF / VA4221WF) and includes backup batteries:

  • Replicates the actions of the main valve (Wi-Fi), even in the event of a power outage.

Use as a main valve

If the valve is connected to a Zigbee gateway (e.g., GT130):

  • No automatic shutdown will be triggered in the event of a power failure, because communication with the gateway (and thus the leak detectors) is interrupted.

Important: To maintain operation in the event of a power failure, your Zigbee gateway must be connected to an ACUPS backup power system, and an automation must be created so that the valve closes if leaks are detected.
