The geofencing feature allows you to put a location in present or absent mode automatically.
Here are the steps to follow to determine the actions that will be achieved by your smart devices when you use geofencing.
When you leave the perimeter indicated in the geofencing feature, your location automatically changes to Away. Your smart devices then execute the absence setpoints that you have determined.
To select the absence or presence setpoints, you must:
From the dashboard or the main menu, press on Automation, then on + Create an Automation. Select Presence from the trigger types.
Indicate the name you want to give to the automation, then choose the condition (If I am arriving to the location or If I am leaving the location
Indicate all the actions that will be achieved by your devices by pressing on + Add Action. Follow the steps on the screen, then save.
Repeat step 3 for each device to which you want to apply a presence setpoint when the location is on home or away mode.
Create a 2nd presence automation to define the actions that will be achieved by your devices for the remaining condition (If I am arriving to the location or If I am leaving the location). To do so, follow steps 1 to 4 again.
Note: You can deactivate at any time an automation if you don’t want it to be achieved by unchecking the Automation activated option. This prevents from deleting the automation and losing every action related to it.
When you leave the perimeter indicated in the geofencing feature, your location automatically changes to Away. Your smart devices will then execute the absence setpoints that you have determined.
To select an absence setpoint, you must:
Select a device to which you want to assign an absence setpoint, then access the settings of this device.
Open the Configuration menu, then scroll down until you can see the Away Mode field. Select the option of your choice displayed in the drop-down menu.
Press on the Save button at the bottom of the page. Then, repeat steps 1 to 3 for all your Wi-Fi or Web Programmable devices to which you want to assign an absence setpoint.
When your location is on the Home mode, the devices follow the programmed schedules.
Geofencing, or location-based triggering, uses your mobile device to detect when you’ve crossed a set boundary and trigger actions in your smart devices.
Based on your geofencing configuration, you can, for instance, lower the setpoint temperature of all your thermostats when you are at 5 km from home.
To select the radius of your location, press with a finger on the map to mark your location. Then, drag the cursor under the map from left to right to select the radius value from 1 km to 100 km.
The use of geofencing has many benefits:
Yes. As this feature uses your mobile device’s position to detect when you leave the delimited perimeter and to send setpoints to your devices, you need to always share your position with Neviweb for the geofencing to work properly.
Yes, it is possible to set a location to Home or Away manually from the Neviweb dashboard. The house icon on the left side of the button confirms the presence status: lights are on to confirm the Home mode and lights are off for the Away mode.
Sometimes, time and presence automations may conflict and indicate different setpoints for the same period. In these situations, each new automation takes precedence over the previous one.
Yes. It is possible to set a location to the Away or Home mode manually from the Neviweb dashboard. The Away/Home setpoints will be executed according to the presence automations created (Zigbee devices) or based on the away setpoints saved (Wi-Fi and Web Programmable devices).
Only the geofencing feature requires always to share your position.
For now, the geofencing feature can only be linked to one mobile device (smartphone or tablet) at once. The multi-user mode that will be unveiled in the Neviweb app in Spring 2020 will enable the possibility to link several devices to the geofencing feature.
