Is Calypso safe for preventing the growth of Legionella bacteria?

The Calypso controller maintains a safe minimum temperature in the water heater using a probe. If the temperature drops below a certain threshold (45-55°C), it exits the peak event and reactivates the water heater to prevent bacterial growth. During the peak event, if the temperature remains stable, Calypso remains deactivated.

Yes. The Calypso controller is equipped with a temperature probe to maintain a safe minimum temperature to limit the growth of bacteria such as Legionella.

How does Calypso ensure safety?

Calypso constantly monitors the water temperature in the tank using its probe. If the temperature drops below a safe threshold, the controller:

  • automatically withdraws from the peak event;
  • reactivates the water heater to restore a safe temperature.

Important

  • If the water temperature remains safe throughout the peak event, Calypso will remain deactivated and will only be reactivated at the end of the event.

Example of operation

Here is a typical scenario during a peak event:

Management via Eco Sinopé Management via Hilo
1. Before the event The water heater maintains the normal temperature (e.g., 55°C). The water heater maintains the normal temperature (e.g., 55°C).
2. Start of the event

Moderate water consumption does not affect the outlet temperature.

Moderate water consumption does not affect the outlet temperature.

3. If water consumption is high The introduction of cold water gradually lowers the temperature of the water in the tank. The introduction of cold water gradually lowers the temperature of the water in the tank.
4. Reaching the minimum threshold

Between 45 and 55 °C (parameter adjustable in the Sinopé Neviweb app)

  • Calypso is leaving the peak event.
  • The water heater is reactivated to heat the water.

This setting cannot be changed; it is set to 49°C by default in the Sinopé Neviweb app.

  • Calypso is leaving the peak event.
  • The water heater is reactivated to heat the water.
5. Continuation of the event The water heater controller will remain non-participating for the remainder of the peak event once the minimum threshold is reached. The controller will be able to resume participation in the event (if necessary) after reaching 50°C and maintaining a higher temperature for 20 minutes.
6. End of the event Since the water heater has already been reactivated, the system continues to operate until the water temperature returns to normal. The water heater will operate until the water temperature returns to normal.
