How do I adjust the temperature of my hot water tank?

Here are the steps to follow to adjust the temperature of the hot water tank:

  1. Make sure to shut off the power to the water heater.

  2. Remove the thermostat covers from the tank. To do this, simply unscrew the cover, pull it off and remove the insulation.  

    Note: There are two thermostats on a hot water tank, one on top and one on the bottom.

  3. Once the cover is removed, take a flathead screwdriver and adjust the temperature of the tank to the desired level. 

    Note: The temperature of the upper thermostat should be a little higher than the lower one.

  4. Replace the insulation and thermostat cover once the temperature is adjusted.
